SNOOP: 262 Years Young: A Bold New Design for a Historic Home

Historic homes (especially those older than the U.S. itself!) can feel quirky and closed off—but in the hands of designers Diane Karmen and Nancy Galasso, this 1763 Westport antique was transformed into a bold, bright, and beautiful family home for Lauren Schiller.

Every detail tells a new story—come take a peak inside!

Working closely with Vicente-Burin Architects, the team carefully balanced preservation and reinvention. Original features—like rustic beams, millwork, and cozy fireplaces—were restored and reimagined, while sleek updates like a steel-and-glass laundry room and a pool house Dutch door introduce modern life with ease.

First Impressions

The entrance foyer alone sold the house. Now it doubles as a history lesson and a gallery, where 1763 hardware mingles with bold pieces from Lauren’s collection.

The formal living room balances history with softness, creating a space that feels both timeless and inviting.

An Artful Climb

Lauren’s art collection shines throughout the home. Each piece is thoughtfully placed, even in the stairwell, to enhance the mood with depth, warmth, and a playful balance of old and new.

Even the bathroom got a starring role—transformed into a “jewel box” with added glam in this dramatic before-and-after.

The dining room, softened with modern textures, blends old-world warmth with a fresh touch.

The office layers built-ins, window seating, and a vintage rug into a workspace that feels both grounded and inspiring.

The home contains two stunning and thoughtfully designed mudrooms. The first connects from the living space to the garage. We just love the timeless charm of the herringbone stone floor.

The home continues to unfold. Stepping through a playroom we landed in this darling black and white mudroom.

Step through that Dutch door and you’ll find a backyard that checks every summer box: pool, hot tub, tennis court, veggie garden, and sleek lounge zones made for entertaining.
