Design Portrait: Russell Miyaki

Finding the perfect holiday gift can be “ruff,” that’s why we are always on the look out for unique special gifts that will also enhance your home. Meet artist Russell Miyaki, creator of the happiest abstract paintings of dogs.

“As an artist, I use my canvas as a portal, bridging my inner feelings and thoughts to the reality of life outside.”

Miyaki is a contemporary artist and creative director in New York City based out of Metro Art Studios in Bridgeport.  A few years ago, reflecting on all of the anger and unhappiness in the world, he asked himself, “What makes me feel fulfilled and happy?” Not surprisingly, he landed on dogs and began to express his love for dogs as abstract art. Then, his clients fell in love.

"My work embodies the simplest, yet most powerful expressions of positive energy, happiness, and fun. It represents an escape from the anger and unhappiness that seems all too prevalent in today's world. My hope is that through my art, viewers are transported, if only momentarily, to a place of joy and serenity. "

These are not typical dog portraits. Miyaki explains he wants to paint the “emotional expression of how dogs make us feel.”  Look below to see some amazing images of his subjects and their owners with their renderings and see how you feel!

Commissions range between $850 to $4200 depending on size. Visit miyakigallery.com to learn more and submit a request.  Mention DESIGNPORT for preferential pricing. There’s time to commission a work and have it delivered before the holidays. How Fetching!
