About
Katie Canfield is the founder and principal designer of Studio KC Interiors, a boutique firm known for creating deeply personal spaces that work as beautifully as they look. Although a younger voice in the industry, Katie is celebrating 10 years at the helm of Studio KC, bringing over a decade of experience to every project. She leads full-home renovations and new builds across the country — always with a focus on flow, function, and feeling. Known for her technical fluency, she brings a builder’s brain to design, especially in kitchens and baths where precision matters most. Studio KC projects often feature custom elements — think bespoke millwork, tailored upholstery, and hardware that makes even the smallest details sing. Katie has been recognized by the IDAs, HOBIs, A-List Awards, and others, and is a proud member of Ring’s End’s We Design CT class of 2025.
“For Katie, the ultimate reward is seeing how her work positively impacts her clients’ lives, turning houses into true homes.”

Q&A
How do you describe your design style?
I’d describe my style as modern and grounded, with a strong sense of story.
I gravitate toward clean lines and natural materials, but I’m just as inspired by a bold stone slab or a wallpaper that shifts the whole mood! My passion for art history emerges in how we shape a space. I love seeing things arranged in smart, unexpected ways that feel dynamic and personal. While function always comes first, I never shy away from color, contrast, or breaking a few rules when it makes the space feel more like you. To me, great design lives where structure meets soul.
Which projects excite you most?
The projects that excite us most are full-home renovations and new builds where we can craft the design from the ground up — shaping the layout, finishes, and all the personal details that bring a home to life.
We love working with clients who trust the process and want to collaborate. Our best work happens when there’s a willingness to take a risk, color outside the lines, and create something that doesn’t look like every other house on the block. Whether it’s designing custom millwork or developing bespoke hardware, we’re always up for creating something that feels uniquely you.
Most of our projects fall in the range of $250K–$2M construction budgets, depending on size and scope. We’re happy to collaborate with your architect or builder, or help you build that team from the ground up.
We also offer a limited number of smaller design packages each year for homeowners who may not have the budget for full-service design but still want that professional eye. We’d be excited to hear what you’re dreaming up!
This 1990s Westport kitchen was closed off from the rest of the home and lacked natural light and flow. Homeowner Kate Daggett hired Elana Tenenbaum-Cline of Carta Creatives to give it a new life. Walls came down and the entire space was opened up to become a stunning new heart of the home.
